I replaced the unread toggle call with the hook. But, it's currently not working as expected. I took sometime this weekend to look into the issue, but I'm not sure what's causing the animations to loose their state. Attaching a gif of the animations suddenly stopped closing when another item is marked as unread. TODO add gif
