currently, if a user is running an older version of the web app and tries fetching user info for a user with a farcaster avatar, the web app will likely crash. this check makes sure this doesn't happen.

haven't done this yet, but before landing i will try sending a friend request and message from user A (who has a farcaster avatar) to user B (web app). Will confirm that the default avatar appears on web app and app doesn't crash.
