One thing I would consider is not calling verifyMemoryUsage in cronjobs that are failing, because this checks how memory behaves compared to the previous check, but explicitly call get_total_memory and get_used_memory at start and end of job, and log if there is a difference.

It's unlikely we will prioritize this diff soon. The corresponding Linear issue is backlogged, so we can always reference it, but for now, I'm abandoning it.
